You should keep your student standing to stay in the United States on an expired M-1 visa. If you might be returning home or traveling to a country where computerized revalidation doesn’t apply, you must have a legitimate visa to return to the United States. You can keep within the United States on an expired F-1 visa as long as you keep your student standing.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will re-admit you to the United States. You can contact your designated college official, officials at your embassy or consulate or your legal counsel for further help.
