According to Mr Cegarra’s website, his long-term project is meant to be a “call to action” on how international government’s course of and “confine” migrants and asylum seekers. Mr Cegarra drew on his own personal experience migrating from Venezuela to Mexico in 2017, earlier than beginning the project the following year. The judging panel felt his personal place as a migrant afforded “a delicate human-centred perspective”. Aletheia Casey captured the town of Callala Bay, which was comparatively unaffected by the 2020 wildfires that swept across New South Wales.
